Twenties-Inspired Session

“They were smart and sophisticated, with an air of independence
about them, and so casual about their looks and clothes and manners as to be almost
slapdash. I don't know if I realized as soon as I began seeing them that they represented
the wave of the future, but I do know I was drawn to them.
I shared their restlessness, understood their determination to free themselves
of the Victorian shackles of the pre-World War I era and find out for themselves what
life was all about.”  ―
Colleen Moore

There is nothing more glamorous and exciting than the roaring twenties!  That’s what made it such a perfect choice for Abby and Jamie’s styled shoot. Abby chose the decade, and we really went to town with their outfits and accessories to achieve an authentic look. We chose long strings of pearls and beaded headpieces, and the girls had gorgeous beaded and fringed gowns. Their makeup was extremely polished and classic, and was done by Kaitlyn, whose talents are simply unmatched. I loved the defined brows and elegant lipstick.

Did you know that a decade is a great theme for a senior shoot? You can help dream up how to achieve the look you want, whether it’s nineties grunge or eighties awesome. I love incorporating a special era into your shoot, and enjoy the challenge of bringing it to life. If you aren’t a senior, but have an idea for a fashion shoot, you can always reach out to us to book a stylized session.

Snow Queen Stylized Shoot

Before there was Elsa and all her Frozen glory, there was the snow queen from Hans Christian Anderson’s book. Snow has long been an inspiration for many photographers and designers, and for good reason. Snow and ice are incredible, magical, and beautiful. There is a sense of mystery to the cold temperatures, and it inspired this styled session with the beautiful Abby and Kaitlynn. Kaitlynn is our usual hair and makeup artist, so she did her own styling, and the lovely Sylvie did Abby’s makeup this time. Both girls were eager to put their own twist on the idea of a modern day snow queen, and I loved having the creative freedom to make this shoot happen!

The first look was very “Elsa”, with a beautiful white outfit and shimmering makeup. We did a side fishtail braid, and added a bit of floral branches to create a true crown. The second look was warmer and had more of a holiday feel, with a crimson floral berry crown, and hints of blue in her shimmering makeup look. As you know if you’ve been following my blog for any length of time, I really find inspiration in coming up with new and creative styling in my sessions, and this one was no exception. If you are a senior who wants really unique senior photos and has a special idea, I’d love to help you figure out how to make it happen…no idea is too crazy or too adventurous to try, and who wouldn’t want to have the most unique photos amongst their friends?

Halloween Themed Session

As spirits roam the neighborhoods at night,
Let loose upon the Earth till it be light…
~Nicholas Gordon

Something you need to know about me is that I absolutely love dreaming up themed sessions. I feel like it’s a bit of a creative high for me, and it always makes me feel super inspired when I can come up with something new. I’ve always loved Halloween, and the subtly creepy themes that were just waiting for me to come up with something cool! I love basically everything about the holiday, but especially the theatrics, the dressing-up, and the the little bit of campy, over the top drama!

One of these girls, Abby, is part of my senior team, and we brought in her friend Sarah for this themed shoot. Sarah was kind enough to be our super-scary vampire! I loved that they were both willing to go to great lengths to make this happen, even as far as wearing creepy colored contacts! I didn’t want sweet halloween photos; I wanted a little bit of scariness, and these ladies brought it! The makeup was a huge part of the overall look, and I love the all-out creepy result that we ended up with. We added some really dramatic outfits to round out the looks, and it came out even better than I imagined when I first started putting ideas to paper.

Thank you Sarah and Abby for helping my vision come to life. I couldn’t do what I do without my fellow dreamers and creatives, including the senior clients I work with!

Elise | Houston Senior Photographer

I once read that creativity is like food for the soul, and that when you're an artist, amazing projects feed your heart. That is how I felt about this session with Elise, where I got to really spread my creative wings and make some art. At the core of who I am and what I do, getting to dream big has always been part of the process. There is nothing I love more than planning, scheming, and putting together something absolutely different than what I have tried before. We utilized a gorgeous Houston studio, where I was able to work with our fabulous makeup artist Kaitlyn to bring this my makeup vision to life. Elise was fabulous, and was willing to try just about anything to achieve an edgy and stylish feel. I especially love the photo of her mom taking her photo, because it captured the fun we were all having on set!

Beautiful Elise is graduating as part of the class of 2020 from Foster High School. She's an incredible athlete, participating in swim and volleyball, and she enjoys being with her friends in her spare time. She also has a flair for great makeup looks, and is always up on the newest makeup trends (I'm sure she could teach me a thing or two!). I think she's got quite a lot of creativity herself, and she utilizes her seemingly endless energy by practicing her makeup skills and dreaming of doing interior or fashion design one day. As her last summer job, she also worked as a lifeguard. I really loved her denim on denim pairing here, and her super gorgeous Kendra Scott earrings (one of my favorite pieces). The shimmery red and gold makeup has a bit of a Hunger Games feel, and was "fiery", just like my lovely model!

I hope to be sharing more creative and styled shoots here on the blog, so stay tuned! I have plenty of dreaming still up my sleeve!
